Katsuragi Old Road and higanbana Hiking
The Katsuragi Historic Trail is a mysterious route that leads to the village of the gods, the setting of many myths. Historic sites dating back to the Katsuragi Dynasty and traces of agricultural culture are spread across the fan-shaped area at the foot of both Kongo-Katsuragi mountains. Cosmos and higanbana flowers bloom near the parking lot on the north side of Kuhonji Temple, and the Nara Basin with the three mountains of Yamato can be seen from a small hill. The rice paddies around the Katsuragi Hitokotonushi-jinja Shrine are a beautiful place to view higanbana and ears of rice. Around the time of the autumnal equinoxes, the higanbana bloom in profusion, creating a tasteful scene of bright red flowers. Crossing Route 309 from “Katsuragi Hitokotonushi-jinja Shrine”, you will enter Nagara village where old houses stand side by side. The highlight is the “Postal Nagara-kan Tegami Cafe. The cafe, renovated from a 100-year-old retro Taisho post office, is quite cute and retro. There is also a museum attached to the cafe, which you can visit just for a tour. Take a break for a stylish plate lunch. The walking distance is about 10 km on paved roads, so you can wear sneakers. Why not join us for a hike to feel the beginning of autumn?
