Diamond Trail Mt. Kongo to Mt. Yamato Katsuragi
The Diamond Trail is a 45-kilometer-long nature trail that runs from Kashiba City, Nara Prefecture, in the north, through Mt. Kongo, the highest point in Osaka Prefecture, and Mt. Yamato Katsuragi, and south to Mt. Makio in Izumi City. It was named after Kongoishi (diamond) in 1972. Today, it is popular among many people as “Daitore,” and its undulating course is popular among hikers for its seasonal scenery. In this event, we will traverse Mt. Kongo and Mt. Yamato Katsuragi, two of the most popular peaks in the Daitore. Although it is a tough course with a distance of about 10 km and an elevation gain of nearly 1,200 m, it is safe and enjoyable as there are many hikers and toilets and stores are available at the top of the mountains. From Mt. Kongo, you can enjoy a spectacular viewpoint over the Osaka Plain, after passing Mt. Kongo, it is downhill to the Mizukoshi Pass, and the climb back up to the summit of Mt. Yamato Katsuragi. The return trip ends with an easy descent by ropeway and bus.
