A Unique Kumano Kodo Experience: Walk Along the Coastal Sand Beach of the World Heritage Kii Route with an Overnight Stay at Minabe Ume Grove
Join us for a unique hiking experience on the only coastal sand beach section of the World Heritage Kumano Kodo, **"Senri Beach"**, combined with a fragrant stroll through **Japan’s largest ume grove** at Minabe. **Day 1:** Walk 12 km along the historical Kii Route, enjoying stunning coastal views and a leisurely hike with minimal elevation change, making it an accessible route for beginners. - **Day 2:** Stroll through **Minabe Ume Grove**, home to 80,000 plum trees, renowned for their breathtaking views and incredible fragrance. The Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes, including the Kii Route, have been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004 for their cultural and historical significance. The routes were once traveled by emperors, aristocrats, and pilgrims. This course features a scenic transition from historical mountain trails to the coastal sand beach, celebrated in ancient Japanese literature such as *The Tales of Ise* and *The Pillow Book*. **Day 1 ends** at Minabe, famous for its umeboshi (pickled plums). You’ll stay overnight in a business hotel near Kii-Tanabe Station, with private single rooms, perfect for first-time participants. Optional: Visit **Tenjinzaki**, known as "Wakayama’s Uyuni Salt Flats," to enjoy a stunning sunset reflection. **Day 2 features** a 4 km hike through the vibrant Minabe Ume Grove, where 80,000 ume trees bloom in mid-February, creating a scenic “carpet of blossoms.” The grove also hosts events and local food vendors, offering a lively and festive atmosphere. **Participation Fee** **¥23,000** (*collected on the train via cash or PayPay*) **Includes:** Hotel stay with breakfast (single room) JR and highway bus fares Admission fees **Excludes:** Meals Route bus fare (¥1,000) **Additional Details** JR and highway bus reservations open 1 month before the event.
