Flames and Fireworks: Wakakusa Yamayaki and Mt. Okunimi Hiking

Mt. Ōkunimi (498m), located in Tenri City, Nara Prefecture, is a mountain rich in natural beauty and historical significance. From the summit, enjoy sweeping views of the Nara Basin, Mt. Miwa, and even Osaka’s cityscape on a clear day. The hiking route features notable landmarks such as **Isonokami Shrine**, one of Japan’s oldest shrines, and **Momoo Falls**, a site known for waterfall purification rituals. The trail spans approximately 13 km with a difficulty level of 4, making it a fulfilling hike for seasoned adventurers. After the hike, witness **Wakakusa Yamayaki**, one of Nara’s most iconic winter traditions. This annual event sets the entire Wakakusa Mountain ablaze in a breathtaking spectacle. Preceding the mountain burning, a grand fireworks display illuminates the crisp winter night sky. The combination of fireworks and the blazing mountain is a truly unforgettable experience. *Note: After the hike, you are free to opt out of the Yamayaki event if you wish. For those staying, there will be free time before the event, and the guide will assist in returning to the station afterward.

18:15 Grand Fireworks Display (15 minutes)

18:30 Wakakusa Yamayaki starts

19:30 Disband at Kintetsu Nara Station or JR Nara Station
