Rokko Mountain Variation Route: Takatori Mountain Zenshoji West Ridge Hiking
The Rokko Mountain Range is said to feature several variation routes not shown on hiking apps like YAMAP. These are not standard hiking trails with maintained signage, so caution is essential to avoid getting lost. The trail distance is approximately 5 km, with rocky terrain making it comparable to Arechi Mountain or the Suma Alps at Level 4 difficulty. However, this is a short course, concluding by midday. The Zenshoji Nishione Trail, though brief, offers abundant rocky sections and breathtaking views of the sea when you look back. The guide will provide instructions on foot placement, making this route suitable even for beginners. After about an hour of climbing, the trail merges with the Rokko Traverse Route. From the summit of Takatori Mountain, you can enjoy panoramic views, including the Kisen Alps and the Nara Omine Mountains on clear days. The descent takes you past Shirakawa Daimyojin Shrine, home to many resident cats, and through a quaint tea house district. Restrooms are available along the way, ensuring a worry-free experience. The hike concludes back at Itayado Station.
