Okikuyama and Kinkumaji Plum Grove Satoyama Hiking
Join us for a scenic hike to Okikuyama, located at the western edge of the Izumi Mountain Range, followed by a descent to the largest plum grove in Osaka, Kinyuji Plum Grove. This 7.5 km hike includes a total elevation gain of about 400 meters. At the summit of Okikuyama, you'll find a stone monument inscribed with "Okiku Pine, the Site of the Chivalrous Okiku." According to legend, Okiku, the daughter of Toyotomi Hideyasu, disguised herself as a man to avenge her husband who was killed in battle during the Summer Siege of Osaka. Before entering Osaka Castle to spy on the Tokugawa forces, she cut her hair and buried it, along with a mirror, at the base of a pine tree on this mountain. From the summit, you'll enjoy a view of Osaka Bay and Kansai International Airport in the distance. Kinyuji Plum Grove has long been celebrated as a famous plum blossom spot, with about 2,000 plum trees filling the area with a sweet and tangy fragrance. The blossoms typically begin blooming in late February, reaching their peak around mid-March, attracting many visitors.
