Daimonjiyama with a Panoramic View of Kyoto & Famous Curry Udon
Join us for a hike up Daimonjiyama, one of Kyoto's most popular mountains. After descending, enjoy a bowl of the famous curry udon at the long-established restaurant Hinode Udon, known for drawing crowds. This 7 km hike includes an elevation gain of about 460 m but features a gentle ascent, making it beginner-friendly. We’ll start at Keage Station and walk along the historic Incline, passing through the Hinode Grand Shrine. After a short rest at a bench on Mount Dainichi, we’ll continue along a gradual trail, reaching Daimonjiyama’s summit in about two hours. After enjoying the panoramic view, we’ll gather for a group photo at the Hidoko, the famous bonfire platform from Kyoto’s Gozan no Okuribi festival. After descending, we’ll head to the Philosopher’s Path and make our way to Hinode Udon, a restaurant featured in films and renowned for its curry udon. Many consider it a must-try! While weekends and peak seasons often see long lines, we might avoid them on a weekday during the off-season. For those interested, optional post-lunch exploration of Nanzen-ji Temple is available. Return options include a bus to Kyoto Station or a 20-minute walk back to Keage Station. Note: Lunch will be slightly late, so bringing snacks is recommended.
