The Harmony of Canola Flowers and Cherry Blossoms: Yamato Sanzan Tour & Fujiwara Palace Ruins
Yamato Sanzan refers to the three mountains of Unebiyama, Miminashiyama, and Kaguyama. These mountains are deeply connected to Japan’s ancient history and are even mentioned in the Manyoshu poetry collection. Located at the center of Fujiwara-kyo, they offer a glimpse into the scenery of Japan’s first capital. The total walking distance is approximately 12 km, mainly on paved roads, making it a great hike for beginners. Each mountain is under 200 meters in height, allowing for an easy climb. Late March is the best time to see the stunning collaboration of bright yellow nanohana (canola flowers) and early-blooming cherry blossoms at Fujiwara Palace Site. The contrast of pink and yellow creates a breathtaking spring landscape.
