World Heritage Site Mt. Hiei and “Hiyoshi no Banba” Cherry Blossom Hiking

Join us for a hike to the World Heritage Site, Mt. Hiei! After descending, we will walk along the approach to Hiyoshi Taisha, known as "Hiyoshi no Banba," where various cherry blossoms—Somei Yoshino, Yamazakura, and Benishidare—bloom beautifully along the prefectural road. The total walking distance is about 11 km with an elevation gain of 850 m, making it a relatively tough course. It's a great opportunity to challenge yourself and strengthen your legs! We will start from Shugakuin Station and climb from the Kirara-zaka trailhead. There are no dangerous sections, but the steep ascent is perfect for training. Enjoy the dappled sunlight filtering through the trees and panoramic views over Kyoto. After about two hours, we’ll reach Cable Hiei Station, where you’ll find the HIEIZAN monument. We will have lunch here, and restrooms are available nearby for your convenience. Post-lunch, take in the breathtaking panoramic views extending to Lake Biwa. We'll summit Mt. Ohiei and visit the Hiei-zan To-tō (Eastern Pagoda) and Konpon Chudo of Enryakuji Temple. Entering from the mountain trail allows you to skip the usual 1000 yen admission fee. Near Konpon Chudo, you can enjoy some sweet treats from local shops. We will descend next to the Enryakuji Kaikan, gradually revealing views of the deep blue Lake Biwa. The hike will conclude with a walk through the cherry blossom-lined Hiyoshi Baba, ending at either Keihan Sakamoto Hieizan-guchi Station or JR Hieizan Sakamoto Station.
