Kyoto Trail Hiking Part ② Kitayama Western Course: Takao to Ninose Station

Grading:

Following the Higashiyama course, we are launching a series of hikes covering the Kitayama and Nishiyama sections. The second event in this series takes on the Kitayama Western Course, a challenging route from Takao Bus Stop featuring multiple mountain passes. With a total elevation gain exceeding 1,000m and a hiking distance of approximately 15km, this course offers a fulfilling adventure. This is a perfect opportunity to level up your hiking skills and train for alpine traverses. The entire Kyoto Trail spans 84km, and the Kitayama & Nishiyama sections will be divided into three events. Why not take on the challenge of completing them all? This trail passes through Kyoto’s historic recreational areas, allowing you to experience rich history and culture. Look out for place names like Himuro and Kyomi Pass, which reflect the area's deep historical roots. Sawano-ike, our lunch spot, is one of the most scenic and relaxing locations on the Kyoto Trail. On a clear day, the emerald-green lake beautifully reflects the surrounding forest, creating a serene setting for our break. Those who participate in all three Kitayama & Nishiyama events and complete the full course will receive a special hiker’s sticker as a completion award. (The third event is scheduled for May.)
