Iwashimizu Hachimangu Hiking & Sewari Embankment Hanami Lunch

Grading:

Would you like to go hiking at Iwashimizu Hachimangu, a historic power spot loved by samurai warlords? The route is approximately 5 km long, mostly paved. This shrine, one of Kyoto's most prestigious, features ten National Treasure buildings. Located in Yawata City in southern Kyoto, Otokoyama, where the shrine stands, overlooks the confluence of the Kizu, Uji, and Katsura Rivers, forming the Yodo River. Facing Mt. Tennozan, this historically significant site has been known as a famous cherry blossom spot since the Heian period. Many powerful figures have visited Iwashimizu Hachimangu to pray for peace, admiring its National Treasure structures and cherry blossoms. The main shrine, designated as a National Treasure, is built in the rare "Hachiman-zukuri" architectural style. Known for warding off misfortune, it attracts many visitors throughout the year. The shrine grounds also feature a 700-year-old camphor tree and one of Japan’s largest stone pagodas, the "Gorinto" monument. The hike starts with the main Omotesando route, passing through three large torii gates. The descent follows the "Hidamari Route," a beautiful bamboo forest path. After descending, those interested can continue to the Sewari Embankment, where a 1.4 km tunnel of cherry blossoms awaits. Enjoy a relaxing hanami lunch along the riverside!
