Nukata Forest Hydrangea Promenade and Mt. Ikoma Highest Peak Hike
We’re organizing a hike to the highest peak of Mt. Ikoma, located in the eastern part of Osaka Prefecture. The Nukata Forest Park, said to be one of the largest in the Kansai region, is home to a hydrangea garden with over 25,000 bushes and more than 30 varieties. It’s a popular destination for hikers who come to enjoy the colorful scenery. Hydrangeas line the 1.5km zigzag walking trail known as the “Hydrangea Promenade.” Because the garden sits at around 500 meters elevation, the flowers bloom two to three weeks later than usual. And guess what? The summit of Mt. Ikoma is actually located inside an amusement park. You might be surprised when you see where the actual peak is! You’re welcome to bring your own lunch or use the park’s restaurant. The total walking distance is about 10km, with 770m of cumulative elevation gain. While it offers a good workout, the trail is well-maintained and easy to walk. How about enjoying a hike filled with seasonal flowers?
