Kyoto Trail Keihoku Course Hiking – For a Deeper Mountain Experience

Grading:

The Keihoku area is challenging to organize as a series like the Eastern, Northern, and Western sections of the Kyoto Circuit Trail due to its access and long hiking distances. However, this time we have prepared a special course that covers all the major highlights of the area. From Kyoto Station, we will take a bus to the “Michi-no-Eki Woody Keihoku” rest area, where the hike begins. We will walk through quiet countryside villages before visiting the tranquil Kamo Shrine, enveloped in deep silence. Continuing further, we will reach the Paraglider Launch Site, which offers a panoramic view of rural landscapes and distant mountains, making it an ideal spot for a lunch break. After lunch, we will descend a steep slope toward Chanomi Pass (trekking poles recommended), then proceed to the Kuzu Shrine, known for its beautiful decorative carvings. Next, we will visit the 20-meter high Takimata Falls, where the sound of the plunging water will cleanse your mind. Finally, we will pass by the impressive Kiyotani Stone Buddha Group and through a stone gate reminiscent of the Arc de Triomphe, arriving at the Hosonoguchi Bus Stop, where the hike ends. This approximately 17km course is intended for intermediate to advanced hikers. We will return to Kyoto Station by bus and conclude the event. Please confirm the meeting and departure times in advance. Note that the only restroom on the route is at the Michi-no-Eki Woody Keihoku. Trekking poles are recommended.
