Rokko Variation Route: Maya East Valley Slit Dam and Tree of Life
Rokko. The walking distance is about 5 km, which is relatively short, but the trail includes rocky sections, ropes, and steep, slippery climbs in the second half, requiring a certain level of physical strength. From the Sumatani entrance, we will immediately leave the YAMAP route and proceed along the valley. After crossing several check dams, you will encounter the impressive Deep Valley Fourth Check Dam, commonly known as the Maya Slit Dam, which looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Once you pass the boulder-strewn riverbed, you will reach a section with three ropes. Push yourself to climb up, and we will support you from behind while explaining where to place your feet. After conquering the ropes, you will come across the Tree of Life, a very rare sight where a cedar tree is growing straight from a fallen log. You are sure to be moved by the mysterious power of life. Continuing up a slightly slippery path, you will join the main Yamadera Ridge route. Before long, you will arrive at the Kikuseidai viewpoint on Mt. Maya. After having lunch, we will descend by ropeway and cable car. Please bring some trail snacks, as lunch may be a bit late.
