“A Landmark Where History and Nature Intersect!” Mt. Tennozan Hiking

Grading:

Just as he was about to unify the country, Oda Nobunaga was struck down in the Incident at Honnō-ji! The warlords of the Sengoku era fell into chaos! Everyone thought the world would descend into disorder! But two warlords remained calm... Marching to the battlefield from the "Incident at Honnō-ji"—the man later called a traitor to the realm, Akechi Mitsuhide. Marching to the battlefield from the “Chūgoku Great Return”—the man later called the unifier of Japan, Hashiba (Toyotomi) Hideyoshi. The fateful battleground that would divide their destinies was... “TEN-NŌ-ZAN!” (Narration by Akito) Towering on the border between Kyoto and Osaka, Mt. Tennō (approx. 270m elevation) offers an easy hike with seasonal scenery along the trail. This is the site of the Battle of Yamazaki. We’ll visit Hōshakuji Temple, where Hideyoshi set up his headquarters, and explain the six illustrated ceramic plaques known as “Hideyoshi’s Road.” After crossing Mt. Tennō, we’ll visit Ogura Shrine, where Hideyoshi is said to have prayed for victory. Don’t miss the statues of all twelve zodiac animals gathered in one place! The walking distance is approximately 5km. This beginner-friendly short hike will be taken at a relaxed pace and conclude in the morning. Come spend a fulfilling day with us enjoying history and nature!
