3,000㎡ Lotus Pond: Early Morning Hike Around the Three Mountains of Yamato
The "Three Mountains of Yamato" refers to Mt. Unebi, Mt. Miminashi, and Mt. Kagu, which are deeply connected to ancient Japanese history and even mentioned in the "Manyoshu" poetry anthology. Located at the center of the former capital Fujiwara-kyo, it's enjoyable to imagine the scenery of the capital as it once was while walking. The walking distance is about 12km. Since most of the route is paved city roads, it is recommended even for beginners. There are many vending machines along the way, so you can walk with peace of mind. Each mountain has a low elevation (under 200m), making them easy to climb. At the Fujiwara Palace Ruins, where the ancient capital once stood, the lotus zone located southeast of the Daigokuden ruins has about 3,000 square meters planted with 11 varieties including the lotus of Toshodaiji Temple. Let’s view the lotus flowers early in the morning before it gets hot, as they close up by afternoon. Those who wish can enjoy lunch at "Café Kashinomori" located within the grounds of Kashihara Shrine. You can try the famous Kakinoha-sushi and nyumen set, or the smooth and fluffy shaved ice available only in summer. We will wrap up this fulfilling morning and then disband.
