Kyoto Trail Hiking Vol. ③ — Kitayama East Section From Ninose Station to Cable Hiei Station
The Kyoto Trail Hiking Series that we held in spring returns this autumn–winter in the reverse direction! The third hike covers the Kitayama East Course. Passing through the beautiful autumn colors of Kurama, we’ll cross two mountain passes before reaching the village of Ohara. From there, a steep climb up Mt. Hiei awaits, followed by a ridge walk to Cable Hiei Station. As characteristic of the Kitayama area, the trail leads through dense cedar forests. You’ll experience the true joy of hiking as we cross Ebun Pass and Yakuo Slope, then enjoy the peaceful rural scenery of Ohara. The grand panorama from Mt. Hiei and the area’s many historical sites make this a rich and rewarding route. With a total elevation gain of over 1,400 meters and a distance of about 17 km, this is the most challenging hike (Level 8) in the current series. Why not take on a long trail while the weather is cool and pleasant? This course is ideal for those aiming to improve their hiking level or prepare for future alpine traverses. Spanning 84 km in total, this series concludes the Nishiyama and Kitayama courses of the Kyoto Trail. Participants who complete all three hikes in the Nishiyama–Kitayama series will receive a special Kyoto Hikers Completion Sticker as a prize! ※ We plan to finish around 16:45, but please bring a headlamp just in case.
