Let’s enjoy autumn leaves! Mt.Nijō Hiking
Mt. Nijo consists of two peaks — the male peak (517 m) and the female peak (474 m). It has been celebrated in Manyō poems and remains a popular hiking destination where visitors enjoy the changing scenery throughout the seasons. In autumn, the entire mountain turns a vivid red. The total walking distance is about 7 km, with a mountain level of 3. The route is gentle, with few dangerous spots, making it a perfect course even for beginners to enjoy the autumn colors while hiking. At the summit of the female peak, there’s a spacious area ideal for a relaxing lunch while taking in views of the Nara Basin and Mt. Yamato-Katsuragi. The descent passes through Iwaya Pass toward Taimadera Station. Near the station is the famous yomogi mochi shop Chūjōdō Honpo — a beloved local favorite. Since it’s the autumn outing season, they may sell out early, but if you’re lucky, treat yourself to one as a reward for your hike!
