The place of Koga Ninja training, Mt. Hando Hiking
Konzeyama and Tanakamiyama are both mountains where Shugendo (mountain asceticism) is practiced, and are centers of mountain worship. It is said to have been a training ground for the Koga Ninja. At the top of the mountain are the ruins of Hando-ji Temple, built in the Nara period, and in the vicinity are scattered strange and peculiar stones called Nozoki Iwa, Fudo Mmeiwake Iwa, and Arinoto Ferruginous Pagoda. The course is around 12km long with an elevation gain of 600m, making it a challenging walk. The Shigaraki Kogen Railway on the way back is also an enjoyable experience.(410 yen to Kisugawa Station, cash only) Why not become a Koga Ninja and overcome these training grounds?
